Grace Caroline Bohnen (2004-2024)

Grace Caroline Bohnen, 19, of Wilson, Kan., went to be with her Lord on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024, at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., with her loving family by her side.
Grace was born Nov. 17, 2004, in Wichita, Kan. She was the oldest of three children born to Todd and Christa (Whitebird) Bohnen. From infancy to second grade, Grace’s family lived in Bel Aire, Kan. They moved to Wilson, where she grew up and graduated from Wilson High School in the Class of 2023. Grace was a leader among her peers, family and within the community. She was class president for three years, cheer captain and was involved in several sports and school activities where she led with passion and tenacity. She had an amazing spirit, contagious smile and a drive to always be the best version of herself.    

Grace loved to be surrounded by her close friends and family. She brought so much joy and laughter everywhere she went. She was a leader, but also felt the need to take care of people, whether it be her brothers, friends or complete strangers. She’ll be remembered for the love that she shared, bravery and fearlessness to live life to the fullest.   

Grace is survived by her parents, Todd and Christa Bohnen, Wilson; two brothers, Wyatt Bohnen and Garrett Bohnen, Wilson; maternal grandmother, Judy Whitebird, Topeka, Kan.; paternal grandparents Sonny and Mary Lee Bohnen, Wilson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Grace was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Peter L. Whitebird.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, at the Wilson School Gymnasium, Wilson. Burial will follow at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, Wilson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell. Family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Wilson Gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established as the Grace Bohnen Memorial Fund. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell, Kan., which is in charge of arrangements.
