The Ellsworth Junior-High School Lady Bearcats basketball team defeated Beloit Dec. 18 at the Junior High League Tournament at Republic County to win the North Central Activities Association League title. According to Ron Davis, EJSHS athletic director, the Lady ‘Cats were the number one seed going into the tournament. They defeated Beloit 41-24. The Lady ‘Cats end the season with a 11-1 record. That’s why you’re just now reading my thoughts on the passing of Bob Dole. As an employee of the Salina Journal, I first met Sen. Dole in the 1970s, when I moved to Kansas from Indiana. I remember calling my father, who was a huge fan, with the news. Later I would cover Sen. Dole’s three bids for the presidency and many other issues important to his constituents.
