Smoky Hills DAR Scholarship Recipients

DAR scholarship recipients Nicole Haase and Gavin Webber are pictured with their family at the Scholarship Tea Tuesday, May 24 at the Ellsworth museum meeting room. Members of the DAR provided an assortment of cookies and punch after the scholarship presentations. Smoky Hill DAR Chapter Regent Jeanne Plett welcomed members and guests. Special remarks were also given by Bobby Hulse, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Christy Rathbun presented each recipient a $200 scholarship after reading the history of the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934. The award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities. Students read their essays and the mothers did the pinning of the DAR insignia.
