Meiers celebrate 50th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Meier of Lincoln, Kan. will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Jan. 2.

Clifford Martin Meier and Vivian June Lawless were married Jan. 2. 1971 at the St. John Lutheran Church near Lincoln. Kan.

Vivian Lawless, from Belle Plaine, Kan. moved to Lincoln in 1964 to become the Lincoln County Extension home economist after completing college at Kansas State University. She was later employed as an income maintenance worker for the Kansas State Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (S.R.S.) for Lincoln and Ellsworth counties. For a short time she was the local manager of the Town and Country Annex, a women’s clothing store in Lincoln. Following the store’s closing Vivian was a deputy clerk in the office of the Lincoln County Clerk of the District Court and was a clerk/cashier at Lincoln Grocery for a number of years. She also was a substitute teacher for the Lincoln and Tescott schools and closed out her career as the manager of the Lincoln Senior Center before retiring in 2013.

Clifford Meier is a Lincoln County native. After high school he left Lincoln to enlist in the U.S. Army for three years and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return home he worked at several jobs including working for the Mobil station in Lincoln. He became the manager of the Mobil station located on 1-70 and K-14 intersection near Ellsworth when it opened in 1967. He would later purchase the station and was the owner/operator of Cliffs Service which carried the Conoco brand for many years. He sold the station in 2008 after 35 years in business. Cliff remains working there as an employee of D & S Convenience Stop.

The Meier’s only child, a daughter, Marsha Meier Drennan, lives in Clarkston, Mich. with her husband Mark and their daughter, Mattie, and son, Marek.
