Nancy Carol Burgess Henry (1949-2026)

Nancy Carol Burgess Henry was born on July 13, 1949. She silently passed Jan. 3, 2026, at Sterling Village in Sterling, Kan., where she had resided for the past few years.
Nancy was valedictorian of her class, graduating from Chase High School in 1967. She settled down in Chase, Kan., to begin her family. She then moved to Lyons, Kan., working for Spielman CPA as a secretary, and as high school cheerleading sponsor. She later resided in Great Bend, Kan., working as a Walmart greeter, then moved back to Lyons to be closer to her mother and siblings, volunteering at the library for many years.
Nancy was preceded in death by her loving parents Jack and Ruth Burgess and two sisters, Barbara Jean and Linda Eades.
She is survived by her two siblings Normie Zajic and Richard Burgess; four children, Teresa (Gray) Canan, Tonya (Steve) Morrison, Troy Koehne and Tina Scott; grandchildren Stephanie, Zachary, Tony, Steven, Katelyn, Chris, Tim, John, Emmalee Ruth, Rebecca, Treygun, Colten, Creighton, Kynleigh and Kemper; many great-grandchildren; and her niece and nephews.
Nancy’s favorite thing to do in her later years of life was sending cards to her family, friends and neighbors for all occasions. She would cover every inch of the card and envelope with stickers, and many times filled them with coupons she thought your household could maybe use. Nancy was a magnificent baker throughout her life. She loved making everything full of sugar — everything from no-bake cookies, sugar cookies, banana bread and many other things, and no dessert was complete without pie crust cookies! (If you know, you know!)
Nancy had a strong faith in the church, sharing love and kindness to everyone who crossed her path, offering a generous smile and warm hug.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at the Assembly of God Church, Lyons, with Pastor Larry Schumacher officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Sterling Village in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
