Sipriana Bussing (1929-2021)
Sipriana Bussing, 92, of Brazil, Ind. died shortly after sunrise on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, after a brief stay at the Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility in Knightsville, Ind. She was born March 26, 1929 in Ellsworth, Kan., to Jose and Jesse Uribe Rodriguez. She was the oldest of 11 children. She was a graduate of Ellsworth High School with the class of 1948.
She married John E Bussing on March 1, 1957 in Ellsworth, Kan. They started their journey together by starting a family and enjoying the culture, sights and sounds of Asia, Central Europe and the U.S. This included time at airbases in the U.S., France and Japan. The family enjoyed several years of exploring the cultures and sights of the various places they were stationed.
Once her husband retired from the United States Air Force, they settled back in Brazil to raise their five children. She worked at Columbia House Records in the late 70s/early 80s. She held several positions that focused on the manufacturing of 8-tracks and cassettes tapes. She then worked at Palmby Coast to Coast Hardware. She retired from Sam’s Hardware in the early 90s.
Sipriana and her husband could be seen at many auctions in and around Brazil. They hosted their own yard sales several times throughout the year. They especially enjoyed selling their treasures during the Covered Bridge Festival to repeat customers who faithfully returned year after year.
She was a life long member of the Annunciation Catholic Church. She was very active serving as Secretary of the Mother’s Club, preparing food for various activities and cleaning the altar cloths. Sipriana was also very active in various clubs including quilting, herb and garden clubs. She loved to sew and cook. As an accomplished seamstress she won several blue ribbons at the local 4-H fair over many years. Her granddaughters loved the dresses, costumes and baby doll quilts she made for them. She was also known to fix a bunny who had lost its nose! She was an avid Colts football fan, enjoyed polka music and the Texas Tenors. As a special surprise the Texas Tenors sent her a singing 90th birthday video! She had a love of Vera Bradley purses and Longaberger baskets.
Sipriana was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, John Jr.; son-in-law, Kip Kumpf, siblings, Mary Lou Botello, John, Angel, Danny, Rudy and Marc Rodriguez; in-laws, Georgia Rodriguez, Mary Rodriguez, Robert Lutz, Tony Botello, Michael, James, and Charles Bussing, Kay Bussing, and Ervin Cox.
Sipriana is survived by her children, Kirstin Kumpf, Brazil, Melanie Taylor (Dennis Graf), Channahon, Ill., Cecilia and Charles Miles, El Dorado Hills, Calif., and Eric Bussing (Brian Leedy), Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Shawna Duncan, Kyle (Sarah) Kumpf, Olivia (Kurt) Doughty, Zachary (Jessica) Kumpf, Tavia Taylor, Sydney Taylor, Carlina Miles and Spencer Miles; seven great-grandchildren, Lydia, Evan and Ethan Kumpf, Jordan and Jaidyn Berry, Ayden Duncan and Joseph Doughty; siblings, Lupe Lutz, Frances (James) Jacobo, Joe Rodriguez and Leon (Juanita) Rodriguez; in-laws Connie Rodriguez, Petra Rodriguez, Genie Rodriguez, Robert (Sue) Bussing, Stephen Bussing, Paulette (Richard) Johnson, Peg Arnold, Mary Jo Cox, Margaret Bussing, Carol Bussing and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation was Thursday, Oct. 21, at French Funeral Home in Brazil, Ind. Her niece, Vicki Lutz Bonilla and husband Rodrigo Bonilla led the Rosary in her honor.
A mass of Christian Burial was Friday, Oct. 22, at Annunciation Catholic Church with Father John Hollowell officiating. Burial followed at Restlawn Cemetery where she was laid to rest next to her husband and son.
