Rosalie May (Springer) Wood (1937-2020)
Rosalie May (Springer) Wood, 83, of Ellsworth, Kan. and formerly of Russell, Kan., passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at the Ellsworth County Medical Center.
Rosalie was born Feb. 13, 1937 in Pleasanton, Kan., the daughter of Leslie Adam and Nettie May (Graham) Springer. She grew up in Pleasanton and graduated from Pleasanton High School. She was the Homecoming Queen her Senior year. She also worked at the Dairy Curl and the local bank.
Rosalie was united in marriage to C. Byrne Wood April 28, 1957 in Pleasanton. This union was blessed with four children: Anita, Byrne Lee, Brent and Patricia. They made their home in Pleasanton, Kan., Salem, Mo. and Fort Scott, Kan. before moving to Russell in 1969. Then in 2014, they moved to Ellsworth.
Rosalie was a devoted wife and homemaker for her children. She also worked as a secretary and organizer.
She was a bookkeeper and receptionist for Dr. Cy Raben in Russell. She taught Sunday School at Trinity United Methodist Church for years. She attended and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell and the First United Methodist Church in Ellsworth. She was very instrumental and headed the continuation of the ROAR Art Show in Russell. She enjoyed decorating and hosting guests and events. She was also a member and officer of Beta Sigma Phi.
Rosalie’s surviving family include her husband of 63 years, C. Byrne of the home; daughters, Anita Hoffhines (Ed) of Ellsworth, Kan. and Patricia Cullum (James) of Brentwood, Tenn.; sons, Byrne Lee Wood (Lisa) of Kennett, Mo., and Brent Wood of Goodland, Kan.; brothers, Leslie Leon Springer (Dixie) of Joplin, Mo. and David Springer (Hazel) of Kansas City, Mo.; and 12 grandchildren.
Rosalie was preceded in her death by her parents.
Celebration of Rosalie’s Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 4, at the First United Methodist Church of Ellsworth with a lunch to follow at the church. CDC Covid-19 guidelines will be observed. The service will be broadcast live on the First United Methodist Church of Ellsworth, Kansas, Facebook page at www.facebook.com/uumcellsworth/ .
Cremation has been chosen and no visitation will be held.
The family will have a private burial of ashes at Maple Grove Cemetery in rural Hammond, Kan. at a later date.
Memorials have been established with the ROAR Art Show or the Ellsworth First United Methodist Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.
