Robert Eugene ‘Bob’ Tatro, 79, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2019 in Salina after a long and tenacious battle with heart disease. He was born in Concordia, to Victor and Agnes (Thyfault) Tatro, the ninth of 11 children.
Bob was an avid fisherman, hunter, and collector. He was everyone’s ‘go-to’ guy for all things mechanical as he could fix anything. He had a great love for his fellow man and never met a stranger. He was often seen lending a helping hand even to those he didn’t know well. By trade, he was a truck driver known as “Happy Man”, delivering smiles and stories along with groceries all over Kansas and southern Nebraska. He also owned B&E Fina with his brother Edward, and later, Tatro Sales & Auto Salvage which he worked with his son, Robert.
Bob loved Jesus and he loved telling stories. Imagine the anecdotes circulating the heavens as Robert is reunited with those who preceded him in death, his parents; brothers, Victor Jr., Leonard, Franklin, Edward; sisters, Margaret, Emeline, Charlotte, Victoria, Clara Rose, and Lena Mae.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline; daughters, Lucy Turner, Sue Davis (Phil) all of Salina; son, Robert Tatro of Glasco; step-daughters, Sharon Lorfing (Rick) of Kansas City, Patti Pelland (Jack) of Topeka, Marlene Witthaus (Jim) of Lawrence, Cathy Cheney (Keith) of Raleigh, N.C.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends — all awaiting our own reunion and the recitation of our own tales as we look forward to meeting again.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020 at Ryan Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6 at First Southern Baptist Church, Salina. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Glasco Cemetery, Glasco, Kan.
Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.
