Pamela Ann (Neuman) Karnes (1950-2024)
Pamela Ann (Neuman) Karnes, beloved mother and sister, adored grandmother and aunt, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Sept. 12, 2024, in Carmichael, Calif. She was 74.
Pam was born in Ellsworth, Kan., on April 11, 1950, to Harry and Sylvia Neuman. She attended Kanopolis Elementary School and Kanopolis/Ellsworth High School. In 1971, Pam completed her degree in radiology in Concordia, Kan. She worked in radiology at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mishawaka, Ind., then advanced as a CT scanner at St. Joseph’s Hospital in South Bend, Ind.
Pam also enjoyed working part-time at De Amicis Club, Mishawaka, Ind., where she made many dear friends whom she held close to her heart. She remained friends with many of them even after she stopped working there.
After retiring from the hospital, Pam relished her time spent with her grandchildren. She often went out of her way to make sure they had fun and felt special. Whether it was creating life-sized bubbles they could walk through or painting rocks together so they could spread them around the neighborhood, Pam always thought of something new and exciting to entertain her loves.
Unbeknownst to many, Pam was an outstanding artist with a creative side that flourished in several forms. She loved drawing and painting and sharing this gift with others. Pam really found pleasure in volunteering at Liberty Elementary School, Mishawaka, Ind., and turning regular classrooms into spectacular new worlds.
Because of Pam’s never-ending kindness, generous spirit and eagerness to help others, people of diverse ages, backgrounds and interests responded to her with respect and affection. Her love knew no bounds and she truly would do anything to help lift someone up or ease their pain. Pam was special beyond words — the lives she touched are undoubtedly better for it.
Pam is survived by her children, Courtney Comstock, her husband Timothy Comstock and their children Josephine and Eleanor Comstock, Sacaramento, Calif.; son Scott Karnes, his love Charity Guldberg and their children Cole and Cade Karnes, Mishawaka, Ind.; and brother Mark Neuman, his wife Jody, Kansas City, Kan., and their children Jamie (Neff), Jeri (Keoghan), Scott (Neuman), Nikki (Brattin) and Kelly (Rice). She is also survived by a number of close friends who considered her part of their family.
She was preceded in death by her father Harry Neuman, her mother Sylvia Cline Chandler, her stepfather Bill Chandler and a newborn daughter.
A celebration of life will be held in November at De Amicis Club, Mishawaka, Ind.
