Lois Fern Hendricks (1936-2023)

Lois Fern Hendricks, 87, passed away Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023, in Ellsworth, Kan. She was born Oct. 10, 1936, in Hutchinson, Kan., to Glenn and Opal (Lamont) Avery. Lois married Darrel Morris in Kingman, Kan., March 26, 1955. Shortly after their union, Darrel passed serving in the Korean War. She later married Homer Frank Hendricks on Nov. 5, 1956.

  Lois worked as a dispatcher for the Ellsworth County Sheriff’s Office for many years. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi and Eastern Star and a member of the Ellsworth Methodist Church and the Crown Lighters bowling league, serving as the secretary.

  Lois is survived by her daughter Gale Soukup (Steven), Ellsworth; grandsons Andrew Soukup (Virginia) and Daniel Soukup (Dani), both of Ellsworth; great-grandchildren Lexi, Katelyn, Daxton, Davin and Ayden; sister Glendolyn Van Etten, Satanta, Kan.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Darrel Morris; and infant brother Glenn Edgar Avery Jr.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at Ellsworth Methodist Church. The burial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, Kan.
