Don Redding, 87, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, in Claflin, Kan., after a brief, but brave, battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born Sept. 6, 1936, in Madison, Kan., to Glen and Waneta Redding. He graduated from Bushton High School then pursued a career at Northern Natural Gas. Upon leaving Northern Natural, he built and operated Redding Convenience Store in Bushton for many years.
Don married the love of his life, Connie Lathrop, in 1957. They enjoyed building their life in Bushton with their four children. Don had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each thinking they were his favorite. He enjoyed being an uncle to his nieces and nephews. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman, possessing many more pictures of his fish than of his children. Don’s legacy in life was his family and the impact he made in their lives being “present.”
Don is survived by his best friend and brother Dale Redding; his children, Randy of Bushton, Robin (Gary) of Claflin, Rusty (Leah) of Garden City, Kan., and Ronda (Tom) of Southlake, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Connie; sisters Connie Appel and Sue Meier; and infant great-grandson Cameron. Don had long awaited the day he could be reunited with his wife and his loving Labrador Roxie.
Services will be held Friday, Jan. 26, 2024. Family will receive guests beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a celebration of life and luncheon immediately following, all at the BCDI, 301 N. Main St., Bushton, with a private family burial at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made to the BCDI c/o, Parsons Funeral Home, P.O. Box 45, Ellsworth, KS 67439. Condolences can be left at parsonsfh.com.
