Carla Jean Dobosz (1952-2024)

Carla Jean Dobosz, 72, of Geneseo, Kan., passed away June 10, 2024, at her home. She was born May 22, 1952, in McPherson, Kan., the daughter of Charles Edgar and Patricia Jane (Myers) Bishop. Carla was a lifelong Geneseo resident. She graduated from Geneseo High School with the class of 1970. Carla attended Fort Hays State University for two years, where she met her husband Mike, of 52 years. On Jan. 8, 1972, Carla was united in marriage with Stanley “Mike” Dobosz.

Carla worked as a vertical grinding operator. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Geneseo, and a member of the Geneseo Library Board. Carla volunteered at the Northern Rice County Food Bank. She hand-tied blankets for Ashby House, Salina, Kan., and Goodfellows and the Northern Rice County Food Bank, both of Lyons. Carla enjoyed gardening and baking, loved reading and was a devoted grandma. Each year, Carla made Christmas cookie platters for the 7th Street families in Geneseo.

She is survived by her husband Mike of Geneseo; daughter Holly Springsteen (Shawn), Woodland Park, Colo.; sister-in-law Denise Bishop, Lyons, Kan.; two grandchildren, Kaiden Springsteen and wife Lesley and their children, A.J. and Harper, Alvarado, Texas, and Kody Springsteen and wife Sammie of Windsor, Colo. Carla is preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert Ward “Bob” Bishop.

A private family service will be held at the United Methodist Church, Geneseo, with Pastor Stephen Holmes officiating. Burial will be at Geneseo Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Northern Rice County Food Bank or Rice County Salvation Army in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
