Trick or Treaters will tread safely this Halloween in Ellsworth
Local youngsters are in for a treat on Halloween in spite of all the restrictions posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ellsworth Police Chief Emil Halfhill received approval Monday by the Ellsworth City Council to conduct a First Responders Trunk Or Treat event from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, in the 200 Block of North Kansas in Ellsworth.
Halfhill said his plan for the event has been approved by Kerianne Ehrlich, supervisor of the Ellsworth County Health Department.
“I think she was even going to use my plan as a template for anybody else who wanted to do a Trunk Or Treat,” he added.
Halfhill plans to shut down the 200 Block of North Kansas, which includes the street outside of the county courthouse, the Police Department and the Sheriff ’s Office. The first responders, each wearing gloves and face masks, will hand out candy to the children and marks will be placed on the street to promote social distancing.
Halfhill said Ehrlich’s one caveat was if there is an increase in COVID-19 cases locally, the event will be reevaluated.
First responders in Ellsworth County will be asked to participate in the event.
