Posted in:

It is time to celebrate Kansas’ birthday and the Smoky Hill Museum will be doing it up right.

Take the whole family to the museum in downtown Salina and enjoy the fun at the free Kansas Day celebration, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1.

The whole family can enjoy learning how to make butter, shell corn and weave on a real loom. You can also learn about leatherworking and Native American regalia. Plus, there will be make and take crafts, delicious birthday cupcakes.

Everything’s free at the Kansas Day Open House and Birthday Bash.

The Smoky Hill Museum is a nationally accredited history museum, in the heart of downtown Salina.

This free museum is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The museum store also carries a wide variety of regional and Kansas products, local artwork and gifts.

In other entertainment news, the Salina Symphony will present an eclectic mix of classical music and jazz at the Stiefel Theatre at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9.

Guest artist Nick Schroeder will join the symphony as guest artist for Buddy Clements’“Concerto for Jazz Trumpet and Orchestra.” According to the composer, this work “was intended for the very small group of trumpet soloists who have the ‘chops’ to pull it off!” The three movements of the concerto take both the soloist and the orchestra through a variety of jazz and popular musical styles.

Tickets may be purchased at the Stiefel Theatre Box Office, by calling
